Jumbo Pass - Jumbo Valley, Radium, British Columbia - Sep 1, 2007

Jumbo Pass is an amazing place, and surrounding mountains in this area will definitely be on the list for future scrambles. The Pass itself is lush, and full of flowers and tarns with views of amazing glaciers and nearby ridges. From Radium we drove past the Panorama ski resort along a gravel logging road for 30km until we reached the trailhead. The hike itself is ~4km with 600m of elevation gain. There is a small hut in this valley that would provide a home base for the area's scrambles. There is also excellent skiing in this valley, which is probably why developers want to build a year round ski resort on the Jumbo Glacier in this valley. I think it would be a shame if they developed this valley. Jumbo pass is truly is an amazing place.
